CALL FOR THEMATIC SPECIAL ISSUE PROPOSALS
REVISTA ELETRÔNICA DA ANPHLAC
(BIENNIUM 2025/2026)
Revista Eletrônica da ANPHLAC, created in 2001, is a free, open-access biannual online journal (January-June; July-December) published by the Brazilian National Association of Researchers and Professors of History of the Americas (Associação Nacional de Pesquisadores e Professores de História das Américas), registered under ISSN 1679-1061, considered a high impact publication in Brazilian scholar evaluations. Revista Eletrônica da ANPHLAC accepts articles, book reviews and interviews in Portuguese, Spanish and English that address topics in History of the Americas, as well as its teaching, written by scholars who hold at least a master’s degree. The material is submitted to double-blind peer review and evaluated by at least two ad hoc reviewers external to the Editorial Board.
The journal publishes yearly two special issues proposed by researchers, and it is composed of articles about selected subjects that contribute to the diffusion and expansion of academic production in the History of the Americas. The Editorial Board then opens a call for four proposals to compose issues 39, 40, 41 and 42, to be published in 2025 and 2026. Submissions will be received until October 31 and must adhere to the following instructions:
- Concerning the Proposals
Proposals must be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish or English until October 31, 2024, through the forms available on this link: : https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefizZ7ibY7XQUZ_cc-X5_PU6d9_iwZ-YG7b76sC2bnpi1NFg/viewform?usp=sharing

- The proposals must contain the following
- Title in Portuguese, Spanish or/and English.
- Proposal’s aims in Portuguese, Spanish or/and English.
- A short presentation of the proposal with its justification in Portuguese, Spanish or English (2-4 paragraphs). Here, the proponents must highlight the importance and contribution of the selected subject to the History of the Americas.
- Full names of the proponents (minimum of two and maximum of three proponents). They must hold a doctoral degree, be affiliated with different institutions; preferably from different regions and/or countries, and have at least one Basic education teacher).
- The proponents must have extensive experience on the suggested subject.
- A suggestion of at least four authors to compose the special issue, their full names, affiliations, degrees and abstract of their articles.
- Choice of one or more schedule(s) and deadline(s) for publication (check item B).
1.2. Schedule and deadlines for publication
The Editorial Board will choose four proposals, one for each issue, according to the following schedule and deadlines:
- Issue 39 (January – June 2025)
- 30/03/2025: submission of articles.
- Until June 2025: article evaluation by peers, editing and publication of the Special Issue.
- Issue 40 (July – December 2025)
- 30/09/2025: submission of articles.
- Until December 2025: article evaluation by peers, editing and publication of the Special Issue.
- Issue 41 (January – June 2026)
- 30/03/2026: submission of articles.
- Until June 2026: article evaluation by peers, editing and publication of the Special Issue.
- Issue 42 (July – December 2026)
- 30/09/2026: submission of articles.
- Until December 2026: article evaluation by peers, editing and publication of the Special Issue.
1.3. Criteria of evaluation, selection and ranking of the proposals
The Editorial Board will select proposals based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of the proposal regarding contemporary debates on the History of the Americas.
- Compliance with the proposal’s requested format.
- Institutional, regional, and (inter)national diversity of the proponents.
- Ethnic, racial and gender diversity of the proponents.
- Cohesion and clarity of the proposal.
- Proposal originality in comparison with previous issues published by Revista Eletrônica da ANPHLAC.
- Suitability of the proposal and the suggested articles to rules and ethic codes of the journal.
- Guidelines for Special Issue organizers
- Revista Eletrônica da ANPHLAC is an online publication; it follows an Open Access policy and uses a CC-BY license.
- All articles must be submitted on the journal platform (OJS/PKP): https://revista.anphlac.org.br/anphlac/index.
- The journal publishes original manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish and English that address topics in History of the Americas, as well as its teaching, written by scholars who hold at least a master’s degree.
- Manuscripts must follow the journal style guide: Times New Roman font, 12 point, one-and-a-half (1,5) spacing, A4 paper. The target length for articles is 15-30 pages, references and notes included. - Articles suggested to compose the special issue will be evaluated by at least two ad hoc external reviewers.
- Other articles submitted to the journal and related to the Special Issue proposal might be included in that edition.
- All articles will be submitted to the same editorial processing and evaluation. The Editorial Board might decline articles that are not relevant or adequate to the journal’s scope.
- Concerning approved proposals
The Editorial Board will inform the proponents of its decision on October 30, 2022, by email. The results will also be published on the journal’s website. After the approval, organizers will receive further instructions. In case Revista Eletrônica da Anphlac does not receive any relevant proposals, a new call will be issued.
- Organizers’ responsibilities
- Inviting authors to submit articles.
- Assessing the relevance of submitted articles.
- Promoting the Special Issue assisted by the Editorial Board.
- Suggesting the arrangement or order of the articles.
- Writing a presentation for the Special Issue.
- Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
- Taking charge of received manuscripts and their evaluation process.
- Editing the issues.
- Deciding the relevance of received manuscripts.
- Promoting journals’ issues.
- Discussing the possibility of inviting authors to submit articles and/or translations. Those manuscripts undergo the regular process of evaluation.
- Submission, evaluation, and publication of special issue articles
A minimum of four articles are expected for each special issue. All submitted articles will be evaluated by at least two ad hoc external reviewers, specialists with established scholar trajectories from different institutions than the authors. All evaluation processes are registered on the journal’s platform and are available for audit. The entire evaluation process is carried out exclusively on the platform, under the supervision of the Editorial Board. Exceptional cases will be settled by the Editorial Board.
