Abstract

Abstract:

This article analyzes the figure of the Witch in the novel Temporada de Furacões, by Fernanda Melchor, as a symbol of marginal sacredness and epistemic resistance in contemporary Mexico. Drawing on a dialogue with historiography on colonial witchcraft (Alberro, 1988) and the concepts of controversial sanctity (Rubial García, 1999) and ethics of liberation (Dussel, 2000), it is argued that the character transcends the literary archetype to embody a subaltern form of knowledge that emerges from violence and state abandonment. The analysis demonstrates how the effectiveness of her rituals and her dissident gender identity operate as forms of political and bodily agency. The study concludes that the controversial sacred, as manifested in the Witch, functions as a distinct epistemology that challenges the totality of exclusionary modernity, offering a form of resistance in contexts of extreme precarity.
